BAHAWALPUR, Nov 2: The Cantonment police on Saturday registered an FIR under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code and the Anti-Terrorist Act against 16 lawyers.

The FIR was registered under sections 427, 109, 353, 16 of the PPC and 7 ATC on the complaint of Khadim Husain, reader of Bahawalpur district and sessions judge Rasheed Qamar.

The complainant alleged that during hearing by the judge of a case under Section 22A, Advocate Umair Mohsin, former Bahawalpur High Court Bar Association secretary, interfered, insulted the court and misbehaved with the judge.

The judge issued a contempt of court notice to Mohsin and fixed Nov 5 for hearing. Later, lawyers Ashfaq, Muhammad Azhar, Aurangzeb and 12 other junior lawyers entered the courtroom, shouted slogans, hurled threats and warned of closing down the court.

The complainant alleged the lawyers resorted to violence and damaged a rostrum in the courtroom. They also attempted to lock the room, but policemen prevented them. Their fellows entered the courtroom again on Mohsin’s directive and started ransacking.

The complainant nominated lawyers Umair Mohsin, Azhar Awan, Aurangzeb and Ashfaq Teaja and 12 other unidentified in his FIR.

No arrest had been made until the filing of this report.

BURIED: A man was buried alive under sand dunes while digging here on Saturday.

Family members and relatives of Ghulam Muhammad of Jaffery Town placed his body on a road in front of the DPO office and protested against the alleged negligence of contractors and officials of the Punjab Mineral Department.

The demonstrators claimed due to inadequate safety arrangements by mining contractors and officials, Ghulam Muhammad was buried alive under sand dunes where he was digging to load his trolley, near village Goth Lashkar. They demanded arrest of the contractors and officials.

The demonstration continued for about three hours and after an assurance by police officials of legal action, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
