RAHIM YAR KHAN, Oct 1: As many as 11 ‘criminals’ managed their escape from a police ‘torture cell’ situated near Bypass Road Flyover here on Monday night.

On the other hand, PRO to District Police Officer Arshad Nawaz said only one accused escaped who was arrested later.

Reports said Rahim Yar Khan CIA police had established a ‘private investigation cell’ where 12 accused were kept in a room.

On Monday night, all the accused broke open door of the room and escaped after attacking three on-duty policemen with bricks.

Police launched a search in adjoining areas but could not arrest the criminals. An accused, Tahir Mastoi, who escaped towards Basti Malkan near Pir Shaheedan presented himself before people of the area claiming that he was innocent.

Sadar police shifted him to an unknown place after his arrest. Police raided different areas but failed to arrest the remaining 11 accused.

The injured policemen were shifted to Sheikh Zayed Medical College Hospital.
