KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Nabil Gabol has been named in the murder case of proscribed People’s Amn Committee leader Zafar Baloch, drawing severe criticism from MQM, DawnNews reported.

City division SSP Faisal Bashir Memon told Dawn that an FIR was lodged against Gabol on a complaint of Mohammad Ali Baloch, the father of the slain leader.

He explained that Mr Gabol was nominated for his alleged abetment in the murder.

The case was registered at the Kalakot police station under Sections 302 (premeditated murder), 109 (abetment) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The SP said that four other unidentified persons were also booked in the case.

Zafar Baloch, a diehard activist of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and a key figure of the outlawed Peoples Amn Committee was shot dead on September 18 by unknown motorcycle riders in Karachi’s troubled Lyari neighbourhood.

Tension and fear had gripped the city’s south district, particularly Lyari and its adjoining areas, following the killing of Baloch

Meanwhile, condemning the claim, MQM’s Rabita Committee has demanded the federal government to take notice of the ‘fake’ case against the MQM lawmaker and withdraw the FIR forthwith.

In a statement issued here, the party demanded for retraction of the murder case against their lawmaker. “Falsely involving Nabil Gabol in the murder case of Zafar Baloch is continuation of political victimization,” said the statement.

Gabol is currently in Islamabad to attend the ongoing session of lower house of the parliament.

Zafar Baloch had survived at least two attempts on his life in the past.

He remained a local PPP leader but joined the PAC when it was formed in 2008. Later he became general secretary of district south chapter of the PPP, but resigned soon after developing differences with the then PPP MNA, Nabil Gabol and provincial minister Rafiq Engineer.

Before MQM became a menace the City of Karachi was a hubbub of activity and the good life, there were virtually no problems. But the last 20 years have been a drain to feed the organization sitting in Edgeware England. They do whatever they want and when they get caught they squeal their rabita committees' head off. Nabee Gabol should not be arrested on someones pointing but they should have solid evidence then only they should arrest him and let the law take its course.

Correct me if I am wrong,Nabeel Gabol, during Zardari's rule was one time deputy minister of ports,MQM man was minister who controlled every thing. Gabol as protest resigned & left PPP. Is n't it surprising that he joined the ranks of MQM? unsavoury politicians everywhere you look.

In my opinion Uzair Baloch arranged for the killing, as their was a power struggle within the ranks of Peoples Aman Committee. I would name the stupid Sind and Sharjeel Memon as co conspirators.

Very sad. If we knew the meaning of democracy there wouldn't be killings.

People of Pakistan have stayed the "Silent Majority" since 1947. It's time they did something and reverted to pre Zia days.

It is not Islam when killings are carried out every day regardless of holy months or festivals.

We've continued to grow into a barbaric society. How sad!!!

Unfortunately it is not unusual terminating opponents in developing democracy like Pakistan. Nabil Gabol is not an angel and his involvement in the murder should be investigated if father of the slain person has nominated his name in the FIR.

Altaf Hussian should not make this as a political case. Let the justices take its course.

One should always think when he says something about his opponent. Only few days before the killing of Zafar Baloch he openly said that people will hear a very big news and later we all saw what happened with Zafar Baloch.
