BAHAWALPUR, Sept 16: District and Sessions Judge Rasheed Qamar adjourned for Sept 25 hearing of the fake degree case of former PPP MNA Sardar Aamir Yar Warren.

The adjournment was announced after the counsel for Sardar Aamir, who also appeared in person in the court, contended his client had in 2008 submitted his graduation degree issued from the Balochistan University in 2006 along with his nomination papers.

According to the counsel, his client had appeared in the graduation examination of the university in 2006 for which he had duly filled and submitted his admission form.

He said if the university documents did not have Aamir’s correct particulars after declaration of results, it was not his fault. He said the controller of examinations of the University of Balochistan on the basis of incorrect particulars on the degree had moved for its cancellation.

The controller’s move, he said, had been challenged in the university’s syndicate and he could be granted a stay order.

The court adjourned the case and ordered the accused to produce the decision of the syndicate by Sept 25.

Sardar Aamir had been elected MNA as an independent candidate in the 2008 general elections but later joined the PPP. After the degree controversy popped up, he was disqualified by the Supreme Court following which his wife Khadeeja Warren had been awarded a PPP ticket and was eventually elected MNA in the by-election in 2010.

Meanwhile, former PML-N MPA Haji Zulfiqar Ali’s counsel filed for post-arrest bail in the court of the district and sessions judge here on Monday.

Haji Zulfiqar was arrested in a fake degree case last week and sent to new central jail. His bail application is expected to come up for hearing on Sept 21.

ARRESTS: Power and gas task forces claim to have arrested 26 thieves out of a total of 83 booked in 988 raids within two months in the district.

TEST: About 5,000 aspirants have submitted applications for 350 posts of police constables in the district.

Dawn learnt that physical and race tests of the candidates began at the district police lines on Monday. Those who will qualify these tests will be declared eligible for the written test to be held on Sept 24.

Some applicants complained the venue lacked basic facilities such as proper shelter and drinking water.

BODY: Musafir Khana police claim to have identified a girl’s body recovered on Sunday from sugarcane fields in the Habib Missan village near Ashraf Sugar Mills, about 20 kilometres from here.

According to police, the deceased was identified as Rubina Bibi, wife of Dilawar Husain, a resident of Samasatta, who allegedly shot her dead over a domestic dispute.

The couple had got married about a year ago.

The police registered an FIR against the husband, who is on the run since the incident.
