LAHORE, Sept 8: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf is carrying four suggestions to the All-Party Conference being organised by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government in Islamabad on Monday (today) to form a joint strategy to eliminate terrorism in the country.
PTI chairman Imran Khan told a labour convention here on Sunday that he would take this stance to the moot that quitting the US war on terror, initiating peace dialogue with militants and financing restoration of tribesmen should be the initial steps before resorting to the use of force for tackling terrorism.
He reiterated its demand for arranging his meeting with the prime minister, army chief and interior minister before the APC.
Stressing that the force should be used only if the Taliban refused to come to the negotiation table, he asserted that another APC should be held before conducting the army operation against the militants. The past operations, he argued, only compounded the problem instead of resolving it.
He believed that the country could become a paradise for investors only if the US war on terror and corruption were brought under control as corruption and terrorism were barring investment.
The chief of the PTI, which is ruling Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said corruption could be eliminated by taking to task the big fish and the KPK government would soon introduce a law to hold such people accountable for their wrong deeds.
Asserting that providing (social) security to the have-nots is the duty of the state, he said the KPK government had initiated a process for enlisting widows, orphans and labourers to take care of them and provide them at least sustenance level support.
Imran regretted that national resources were plundered in the name of privatisation to the disadvantage of the masses. He did not oppose privatisation of state institutions but stressed that it should be pro-masses and not to the benefit of few.Not seeing a promising future for the working class in the country, he said Pakistan ranked last on the tax collection scale as the rich classes and 70 per cent of the lawmakers did not pay taxes.
To overcome the revenue shortage, he said, general sales tax and other such indirect levies were imposed that resulted in inflation. He lamented that the poor bore the brunt of price-hike while the ruling class transferred its wealth abroad.
