QUETTA, Aug 21: Two bomb blasts in Chaman and Mastung left three people dead and 20 others, among them four women and three children, injured on Wednesday.

Motorway Police and Chaman Railway Station were the targets, security officials said.

They said the bomb rocked the Chaman Railway Station when a Quetta-bound passenger train was about to leave.

“Two people were killed on the spot and 18 others suffered injuries,” a senior police officer in Chaman said.

A motorcycle rigged with explosives was parked close to the reservation office and it exploded when people were standing in a queue to buy tickets. “It was a bomb planted in a motorcycle and was exploded with a remote control,” police said.

Those killed were identified as Mohammad Kamran and Nazeer Ahmed.

After the blast, Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Dawood Khilji and security forces reached the spot and oversaw rescue work. Bodies and the injured were taken to Chaman district hospital.

The blast was so powerful that it destroyed the entire reservation office. The injured included employees of the Pakistan Railways. However, the train remained safe and left for Quetta after security clearance.

Border security officials closed the Pak-Afghan border after the bomb blast.

In Khad Kucha area of Mastung, a man was killed and two police personnel were injured in an explosion.

Levies sources said that unknown people had planted an explosive device at the Quetta-Karachi highway to target the motorway police patrolling the main highway.

They said it was a remote-controlled bomb which was detonated when a Motorway police patrol was passing through the area. As a result, a passer-by and two Motorway police personnel were injured.

The injured were taken to Mastung Civil Hospital where two policemen were admitted. The passer-by, later identified as Ghulam Qadir, was referred to Quetta for his serious condition, but he died before reaching there.
