I HAVE been an avid fan of Dr Ishrat Hussain. He failed to get admission in a medical college in Hyderabad because he did his intermediate at the tender age of 13.

He was a fine CSP officer in East Pakistan. He was selected by President Ayub Khan for higher studies in economics despite majoring in chemistry. He made tremendous contribution as one of the top State bank governors of the world.

As director, he persevered to make the IBA one of the leading schools of learning. His latest passion has been to train young entrepreneurs who could start their own business.

Almost 70pc of these entrepreneurs after completing their diploma in IBA started their own business. This is a big achievement.

I wonder what would have happened had we agreed to select Dr Ishrat Hussain as Chief Election Commissioner.
