ISLAMABAD, Jul 23: Deputy Inspector General Sikandar Hayat, a grade-20 officer, assumed charge as Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad on Tuesday, replacing former IGP Bani Amin Khan who had held the post for more than two years.

Sikandar Hayat was appointed as the chief of the capital police last week, and had served as joint director general of the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

He was transferred to the Consulate General of Pakistan in Jeddah in 2010 as minister.

The establishment division got the approval of the Prime Minster Secretariat and appointed DIG Hayat as IGP Islamabad after the interior ministry recommended his name.

He had served in the Islamabad Police as Assistant Superintendent (ASP) in the early 90s and as Senior Superintendent (SSP) from 2005 to 2007.

In addition, he had served as SP Headquarters Rawalpindi, SP Mianwali, SP Jhelum, SP Muzaffargarh, SSP Special Branch Rawalpindi, District Police Officer (DPO) Bahawalpur and Multan.

Former IGP Bani Amin Khan was asked to report to the establishment division for further posting.
