PESHAWAR: At least ten suspected militants were killed and 12 others injured as Pakistani jet fighters targeted nine militants hideouts in Khyber tribal region and Darra Adam Khel.

Official sources say that the jet fighters struck the militants hideous in Akakhel area of Bara Tehsil in Khyber tribal region destroying at least three of their secret bases while five alleged militants were killed and six others injured.

Separately in other strikes carried out by the military jets in Kharmatong, Mansoor Sangar, Zawao Adda and Khawngai area of Dara Adam Khel region, six militants hideouts were destroyed.

The death toll could not be independently verified as access of media is restricted in the region.

Pakistani military officials believe mountains linking the Orakzai, Khyber and Kurram tribal areas are one of the main strongholds for the Taliban-linked militants in Pakistan.

Another senior military official in the northwestern frontier city of Peshawar confirmed that air strikes had taken place “somewhere between Orakzai and Khyber”.

Many Taliban and their al Qaeda allies fled Afghanistan to Pakistan's tribal areas after the US invasion in 2001.

They retreated even deeper into the mountains following a Pakistan army offensive in 2009, launching attacks from places where ground forces cannot reach them.

In another unrelated incident a FC vehicle met with an accident in Charsadda area of Khyber Pahktunkhwa killing one FC person and injuring 24 others.

The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital.

GREAT JOB! PAKISTAN AIR FORCE. I fail to understand the difference between the Pak Air Force killing these terrorists or the Drones. Isn't this what the Pakistani people want? Getting rid of these terrorists? The terrorists don't differentiate between innocent men, women and children and the Pak Army. So, why are the defenders of these terrorists parsing their killings. Who cares who kills them as long as some one or some thing kills these murdering dogs.

Good news. We should be on the offensive against the Taliban and using all tools at our disposal to take them out. It is our war and it is high time we act with conviction.

if pakistani jet killed innocent civilians then there is no harm in it...how come they count them from jets and describe them miitants.....drones are far more accurate...pakistan jet shld also be stoped frm bombarment not only drones....according to locals drones do hit high value targets who cannot be hunt down by pakistani army despite years into operations...

@rashid: The article said "suspected" militants. They may have been innocent women and children too. This is why I HATE drone attacks and fighter jet bombardments.

Eradication of extremism menace is possible with well thought out policy of offense and politicking. The policy should be transparent and on the board. For example measures like aggressive road building and infrastructure should be the main stay of the policy in the war ravaged areas. Not only such projects create mass employment but deter the new recruits in extremism. In the end economy is going to decide whether a young man decides gun over job. The policy should mention specific measures and time frame to eradicate 80% of the extremist issues within a 5 years time frame. Technical and vocational institutes for short 3 month can do miracles. Warrior locals are the hardest working people in the world!!

@ Mujahid: there are many self-proclaimed Mujahids who have learnt to recite a few Surahs from the Holy Quran and learnt to perform Salaat but besides that have absolutely no idea about teachings of Islam. They may have learnt a few things in Madarsas from Moulvis or Mullahs who themselves are half learned in Islam. There is a saying in Farsi “Neem Hakeem khatra-e jaan; Neem Mullah khatra-e eemaan” Meaning: “a half learned physician is a danger to life and a half learned Mullah is a danger to faith (Islam).”

Misunderstanding of Islam is a major problem in Pakistan and many other Islamic countries where “Neem Mullahs” (half learned Mullahs) incite their followers or their flock to do everything what Allah has forbidden specially killing of innocent men, women and children.

Pakistan Army has no choice but to bombard them. There will be innocent casualties but this cannot be avoided for greater cause that is making Pakistan a peaceful country for future generation. There were millions of innocent casualties to save the world from German Nazis. If the Allied Forces had stopped bombing Nazis to avoid innocent casualties, the world would have changed as hundreds of millions would have been killed by the Nazis and the entire world would have been occupied by the Nazis.
