LAHORE: Animal rights activist and actor Faryal Gauhar has filed a petition in Lahore High Court against the Pakistan Muslim Lesgue-Nawaz (PML-N) for the death of a rare tiger which they brought to many of their rallies.
The high court has admitted the petition for hearing on May 14.
Rare tigers and lions are a constant feature at PML-N political rallies until yesterday when a rare white tiger died of extreme heat and suffocation.
The death of the tiger has created a huge uproar in the country with animal rights activists calling for the registration of the case against PML-N leaders.
Sources confirmed to Dawn.com that the rare tiger was brought unconscious to the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore on Tuesday evening. The vets there tried to revive the animal but to no avail. The animal died yesterday morning.
According to WWF, white tigers are endangered and are extremely sensitive to heat and noise. With temperatures in Lahore soaring past thirty degrees Celsius and there being nothing but noise at the political rallies, the tiger could not survive. WWF has also confirmed that famed actor and conservationist Faryal Gohar is going to file a petition with the Lahore High Court against the illegal use of wildlife animals at rallies and other such activities. WWF is supporting the petition.
The tiger belonged to a party worker who boasted off his ‘pet’ at Mariam Nawaz’s rallies. The animal can be seen in PML-N rallies across Punjab.

today BBC sent a reporter to the owner's house and he verified the tiger is alive. Unless there are multiple white tigers in Lahore, owned by supporters of Nawaz Sharif who take them to rally's or you guys are not doing your jobs.

The Sharifs should be arrested while the case is pending. They have committed a crime and they deserve to wait in jail till the case is heard in court. These shameless lying Sharifs are refusing to take ownership responsibility of the tiger, saying it belonged to a party worker. Did the party worker pay to import this tiger? We must support the WWF here however its looks like it is safe to show open concern for the Tiger as there can be no danger of retribution from the Taliban types for sympathising with the tiger. This is very funny that courts are avoiding calling people who actually performed an act. Why don't LHC issue notice directly to PML-N? @ Nauman . An actor is someone who performs on stage, films, television or radio, playing the role of a character other than him/herself. It is gender neutral. Just like singer, dancer, clown etc. Many years ago, female actors were indeed referred to as actresses but that was abandoned quite some time. ago..
