Terrorism to be resolved through economic overhaul: CM Shahbaz

LAHORE: Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif on Monday said solving the electricity crisis in the country would not curb terrorism, DawnNews reported.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony of a two-day health conference in Lahore, the chief minister said the problem of terrorism could only be resolved if societal inequalities were eliminated and the overall system was revamped.

He moreover said that imposition of four martial laws in the country had destroyed Pakistan.

Chief Minister Sharif added that basic amenities like health and education facilities, which were available to the society’s elite class, were not accessible to ordinary members of the public.

He gave the example of Cuba, saying it had the world’s best health system. Moreover, he said despite their troubles, African countries were not plagued by measles which he said was only prevalent in Pakistan and Afghanistan due to which scores of children had died.

The chief minister regretted that the country was unable to formulate even one bio-medical workshop.

Societal inequalities could not be eliminated in the west, in USA where there had been a culture of democracy, how on earth it will be removed from a country ruled by landlords and zagirdars? The chief minister is building castles in the air. He does not have the political will to stop terrorism as that would go against the army. A section of Pakistani army is hands in gloves with the terrorists.

The chief minister does not seem to have his priorities right. The cause of terror is teachings dished out at mosques and wrong interpretation of Islam and Quran by terrorists. Economic difficulty may make people easy recruits for terror but economic difficulty is not the main explanation of terror. Hmmmm....Chief Minister, do you know that Economic situation in Pakistan can be directly attributed to the lack of electricity. There is no industry. Education and Health system overhaul can only be accomplished after the energy situation has been resolved. It seems like that the country is going backwards. Most of the country is in the dark, the basic amenities can only be made available to the public after the economic situation improves and there is law of the land.
