Bugti murder case: Musharraf files for pre-arrest bail in ATC

QUETTA: Former military ruler Pervez Musharraf filed a pre-bail arrest plea in the Akbar Bugti murder case in Quetta’s anti-terrorist court, DawnNews reported.

The application was filed by Musharraf’s counsel and the court was to discuss and rule on the plea on June 6.

Earlier, former interior minister Aftab Sherpao requested the bench to summon Musharraf to appear before the court in the Bugti murder case. A notice was subsequently issued by the ATC to the former army strongman.

The murder has been a subject of trial and investigation with an ATC in Sibi issuing arrest warrants against Musharraf and several others in the case in July 2012.

Bugti was killed in a cave on August 26, 2006 during a military crackdown ordered by Musharraf who was president and army chief at the time.

Bugti had led an armed campaign to press for provincial autonomy and a greater share of profits from Balochistan’s natural resources. The death of the colourful, British-educated chieftain sparked angry protests in the country.

The same colourful well educated chieftain denied building of schools, roads and medical facilities in his region. He treated his own tribe like a herd of animals. Above all his personal Army (read mercenaries) targeted countries armed forces, ambushed convoys and tried to shot down military helicopter. I request the DAWN editor do a research regarding miseries of the people of region and how their voices had been silenced at gun point and at the cost of honour. Yes Musharaaff must be held accountable but The royalty given to Bugti, appointed as chief minister then governor and his others perks must also be scrutinised.

Everyone around the world knows these cases have no merits and they all are politically motivated. The SC and All the HC should absolved honorable Musharaff from all these cases

Media is laying a role which is very harmful for the country. Calling Bughti (Fighter against Pakistan) with a good name and ex president and Chief of Army staff (who sacrificed his whole life to serve Pakistan) with strange names clearly depicts media's sincerity graph with the country. I and all other patriotic citizens of our beloved country feel extremely sham on the attitude and role of the media.

If any body has any sense in Pakistan, he should stop this drama. President Musharraf did not do anything wrong. If you hurt him in any way, soon Pakistan will pay a huge price in terms of peace.

Pakistan needs leaders like Pervez Musharraf to save Pakistan. Those who are out to hurt him and humiliate him will never escape the wrath of Pakistanis if and when another strongman like Pervez Musharraf takes over control of Pakistan for betterment of Pakistan.

@MSA: Musharraf is a promoter of hate amongst people. Anybody who comes under his definition of hate has either been killed or jailed. He should face the justice and justice will prevail. Under Nawab Sharif, we have a capable, matured leadership which promises peace, stability in the region. Nawab Sharif will take the nation in the right direction.

Every one knows that Bugti was not murdered by Parvez Musharraf and was not loyal to Pakistan. He was always black mailing and was killed by himself.

Mushrraf was president of a Pakistan, how can he blow the cave in which Bugty was hiding along with four of his officers. And why was Bugy hiding in a cave in a far off place in Baluchistan. Under the same anomaly can Zardari be blamed for the murder of Benazir particularly when the former is the beneficiary politically and monetarily.

Musharraf should be held accountable for his actions against the Baloch people. He harmed the integrity of Pakistan. Bugti was an elected leader of the Baloch people. That should be respected. Musharraf should answer the questions in a court trial.
