ATTOCK, Nov 16: The court of Senior Civil Judge Attock Tariq Saleem Chohan has sent an accused in land grabbing case on a two-day physical remand.

Iqbal Khan, former vice chairman of the Attock district council, was arrested on Wednesday by the Anti-Corruption Department after his bail was rejected by its court.

Later they produced him in the civil court with the request of physical remand which was granted. This was stated by the Circle officer (CO) Anti-Corruption, Attock, Syed Shaukat Shah while talking to newsmen.

The land grabbing case had been registered five years ago against eight persons including Iqbal Khan on the orders of the Supreme Court, he said.

They allegedly grabbed an expensive piece of over 10 kanals government land at Ghorghusti village, Attock.

Jameel Khan, the then nazim of union council Ghorghusti Village, had lodged a complaint against the accused, he said.

He said they had done this by manipulating the revenue records in connivance with the land mafia, causing millions of rupees loss to the national exchequer.

The Chief Justice had then appointed the district and session judge (D&SJ) Attock, Chaudhry Mohammad Younis, to probe into the matter. In his report, Mr Younis had found the accusations true and had recommended legal action against the persons.

The anti-corruption department Attock then registered a corruption case and arrested all the accused except for Iqbal Khan, who managed to escape.

However, Iqbal Khan and the detained persons later obtained bails from the anti-corruption court, which had now been cancelled by the respective court.
