MIRPURKHAS, Oct 18: A head constable of the Mirpurkhas police was arrested on Wednesday night for the murder of a sub-inspector which occurred in the morning.

Sub-Inspector Chetan Lal Kolhi, who was also the official in charge of the police emergency centre 15, was shot dead outside his living quarters behind the police station on Wednesday morning.

His nephew, Eshwar, son of Nanji, was wounded in the attack and was admitted to the surgical ward of the Civil Hospital Mirpurkhas.

The elder brother of the deceased sub-inspector, Ramji Kolhi, lodged an FIR and nominated four men — Bhoro Marri, Jan Marri, Basheer Marri Sain Bux Marri — and an unidentified suspect who were booked under sections 302, 324, 109 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

According to the FIR, acting upon the directives of the head constable of Mirpurkhas police, Sain Bux Marri, who was also the victim’s neighbour, four men came to the quarters on two motorcycles and opened fire on Kolhi and Eshwar when they came outside.

The sub-inspector died on the spot while the nephew was critically wounded and they were rushed to civil hospital.

The police arrested Sain Bux Marri in a raid carried out on a tip-off while they are on a look out for the other accused men. The motive for the killing is believed to be an old enmity.
