Two motorcyclists killed

KARAK, Sept 28: Two motorcyclists were killed and three others seriously injured in two separate road accidents here on Friday. Police said in the first incident, a man was killed and another was seriously injured when a motorcycle they were riding crashed near Latambar on Karak-Bannu road. The victim was identified as Shahabuddin. His friend Ali Raza Khan was shifted to a nearby health centre.

In the other incident, a man was killed and two others injured when two motorcycles collided head-on in Ali Khel area. The victim was identified as Israr. The injured Kamran and Saud were taken to hospital.—Correspondent

Prison management

PESHAWAR, Sept 28: Keeping in view the workload pertaining to the management of prisons in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa the home and tribal affairs department plans to bifurcate the prisons section of the department into two parts on administrative grounds.

Mr Khanzad Gul, private secretary to special secretary home and section officer (prisons-II section), has been entrusted with matters pertaining to the prisons. While Mr Khalid Ahmed, a section officer, will continue to perform his duties as section officer (prisons-I section) and will deal with the rest of the affairs relating to the prisons of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.—Bureau Report

Power supply suspended

LANDI KOTAL, Sept 28: Power supply to Landi Kotal and Jamrud tehsils of Khyber Agency remained suspended on the third consecutive day on Friday as three electricity towers uprooted by strong winds on Wednesday could not be re-erected.

Officials of the political administration said they had provided the Tribal Areas Electricity Supply Company with labour, construction material and security for the speedy restoration of power supply to the affected areas.

Tesco officials on their part said the uprooted towers were located on hilltops near Bhagiyari and would require another day or two to repair the damaged towers.

Residents in Landi Kotal and Jamrud said the power suspension for almost 72 hours had adversely affected their daily life. Doctors in the agency headquarters hospital in Landi Kotal said they were also compelled to suspend all surgeries due to three days of power suspension.—Correspondent

Cattle smuggling

PESHAWAR, Sept 28: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has taken notice of smuggling of cattle heads, poultry and other food items from the province to Afghanistan and directed the officials to take action against those involved in it.

Following the directives of the chief secretary, the home and tribal affairs department on Friday directed the anti-corruption department to probe into smuggling of such items via Kurram Agency to Afghanistan.

The anti-corruption director was asked to submit report of the findings to the home and tribal affairs department on urgent basis. It was stated that the provincial government was making all out efforts to discourage every kind of smuggling which has badly affected the country’s economy in general and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s in particular.

The provincial government has instructed the concerned departments and law enforcement agencies to curb the menace. The Peshawar High Court has also taken suo motu notice in this regard.—Bureau Report

Two killed as van overturns

NOWSHERA, Sept 28: Two people were killed and 11 others injured when a passenger coach overturned here on Friday.

Police said the passenger coach (TS-9065) coming from Peshawar to Nowshera fell into a roadside ditch near Taru Jabba and overturned, killing Pir Noor Hussain of Pabbi and Andaz Khan of Tangi, Charsadda, and injuring 11 others.

They were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar, where three of them were in critical condition. The Akbarpura police registered case and started investigation.

Meanwhile, body of a 16-year-old boy, Said Rehman of Charsadda, was found in the fields near Akbarpura on Friday. The victim had come to visit his uncle’s family in the area and went missing. His uncle Shad Khan registered case in Akbarpura police station, saying they had no enmity with any one. Meanwhile, a man, Omair Shabab, was killed near Khudrazi area in Pabbi on Friday.—Correspondent

DPC invites people to rally

NOWSHERA, Sept 28: Defa-i-Pakistan Council has appealed to people to fully participate in the proposed long march from Peshawar to Bab-i-Khyber Jamrud on October 1.

DPC leaders Syed Munawar Hassan, Maulana Samiul Haq, Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, Gen (retd) Hameed Gul and others would address the marchers at Bab-i-Khyber.

Talking to reporters at Akora Khattak on Friday, Maulana Samiul Haq said that the people would participate in the long march in large numbers. He said that the marchers would show resentment against drone attacks, Nato supply and military operation in the tribal areas.—Correspondent
