KARACHI, Sept 24: Police on Monday claimed to have arrested two suspected militants of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) for their alleged involvement in an armed attack on a foreign doctor associated with the World Health Organisation and killing a local medic in Sohrab Goth.
In July, Dr David Fosten, a WHO employee who worked for an anti-polio campaign in Karachi, and his local driver were wounded when their vehicle was sprayed with bullets in Shorab Goth. A few days later, Dr Ishaq Kakar was shot dead in the same area.
According to a handout issued by the office of the DIG-East, Zahidullah and Rafique were arrested in Korangi and unlicensed pistols were recovered from them. During interrogation, they disclosed that they had carried out attacks on the foreign doctor and murdered the local doctor associated with the anti-polio campaign, it added.
It said that the two suspects belonged to the proscribed TTP and further investigation into their network was being carried out.
The police also claimed that the same suspects were also involved in the killing of an assistant sub-inspector of police within the remit of the Sachal police station.
