JI names candidates for polls

MANSEHRA, Sept 18: The Jammat-i-Islami on Tuesday announced its candidates for the two national and five provincial assembly seats in Mansehra district.

“We are announcing the names of our candidates for the national and provincial assembly seats in Mansehra district,” said Dr Syed Tariq Sherazi, the district amir of JI Mansehra, while speaking at a press conference here.

Flanked by Balakot tehsil amir Fazalur Rehman, Mr Sherazi said if people wanted the real change in the country then they should vote the JI into power in coming elections.

He said central Shurah of JI had nominated Younus Khattak as candidate for NA-20 constituency and former MNA Maulana Abdul Malik for NA-21, respectively.

Mr Sherazi said he himself was nominated as a candidate for KP-53, Sardar Ashraf Poswal for KP-54, Syed Ali Asgher Shah for PK-55, Khalid Khan advocate for PK-56 and Dr Mohammad Siddique for PK 57. —Correspondent

Doctor shot dead

CHARSADDA, Sept 18: Unknown assailants shot dead a practitioner doctor, Mohammad Qasim, in Sar Dheri area on Tuesday. The police lodged FIR against unknown miscreants and started investigation Meanwhile, an 18-year-old girl was electrocuted on Tuesday. The girl was identified as daughter of constable Nowshad Khan. —Correspondent

Expired polio vaccine

GHALANAI, Sept 18: The political naib tehsildar Shamsul Islam on Tuesday recovered 300 bottles of polio vaccine, which were thrown into a nullah near the boundary wall of the agency headquarters hospital Ghallanai.

The bottles were brought to the office of APA Ghalanai Rasool Khan Wazir, who directed the FSMO Dr Shabbir Khan to probe the matter.

Dr Shabbir told Dawn the bottles had been thrown in the nullah as the vaccine they had been expired, adding, however, that the expired medicines should have properly been disposed of under the soil. —Correspondent

Four stolen cars recovered

SWABI, Sept 18: The motorway police on Tuesday recovered four stolen cars, arrested three accused and recovered looted jewellery, cell phone sets and a laptop from them.

The motorway police received a tip-off that a white carry van (KP-9158) stolen from Chakwal was being shifted to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa via the motorway. Patrolling officers Atta-ur-Rehman and Amir-ur-Rehman spotted the vehicle parked in Swabi but no one was present there. The police also recovered a car (NK-926), snatched on gunpoint by unknown car-lifters from Islamabad and arrested the accused.

They also seized jewellery, mobile phones and a laptop from them. The accused were identified as Mohammad Ali, Abid Ali and Mohammad Yasir of Checha Watni.

A white Corolla car (LEA-9407) stolen from the jurisdiction of I-9 police station, Islamabad was also recovered on the motorway.

A Suzuki Mehran car (LRK-8919), stolen from Lahore was also recovered by the motorway police. —Correspondent

Call for ending drone attacks

PESHAWAR, Sept 18: The Jamiat Talba Islam (JTI) has expressed concern over the drone attacks and military operations in parts of Fata. The JTI leaders accused the government of killing its own people to appease the United States.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday provincial president of JTI Hafiz Arshad Khan said his organisation would hold a seminar on the current situation on September 20 (Thursday) in order to create awareness among the people about building pressure on government to stop the operations.

“We are going to organise “Sheikh ul Hind” seminar in Nishtar Hall, Peshawar to create awareness among the masses about the internal and external challenges facing the country. We need to show unity in this difficult juncture to foil the nefarious designs of anti-Islam and state forces,” he stressed.

He said the drone attacks had undermined the country’s sovereignty and integrity. —Bureau Report

Body of young man recovered

KARAK, Sept 18: The Takht-i-Nusrati police found the body of a young man in Lawagher Algadda in Babulkhel area on Tuesday.

The body was identified as that of Danish, resident of Ahmadabad. The body was placed in Takht-i-Nusrati police station for identification.

Qalam Bad Shah, uncle of the deceased, identified the body and said the victim had committed suicide by shooting himself with a pistol. Police also recovered pistol from the site. —Correspondent
