Fresh survey of damage

PESHAWAR, Sept 12: A coordination meeting regarding compensating the dwellers of different localities in Peshawar whose houses were damaged in the recent rain was held here on Wednesday at the DCO office.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Sports, Syed Aqil Shah, DCO Mohammad Javed Marwat and ANP PK-4 president Zahid Hussain were present in the meeting. Syed Aqil Shah told the meeting that rain damaged most of the houses in his constituency due to poor drainage system.

He warned that if anything like this happened in future the concerned TMO would be held responsible for the damages.

DCO Javed Marwat asked the girdawar, Inayatur Rehman, to conduct a new survey of the damages caused to houses in PK-4 and make a list of the victims in consultation with ANP PK-4 president Zahid Hussain Khan. — Bureau Report

Watchman found dead

MANSEHRA, Sept 12: The body of a watchman who had gone missing a couple of days back was found in the forest area of Allai in Battagram district on Wednesday.

Sher Khan had gone missing after he went to his work on Tuesday night. The family also registered FIR with the Allai police station.

A man who found the body of Mr Khan lying in the forest informed his family. The body was later shifted to a local hospital for autopsy.

The Allai police after lodging the FIR against unknown killers have started investigation. — Correspondent

Hoti rejects ‘propaganda’

PESHAWAR, Sept 12: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has reiterated resolve to continue development activity in the province alongside welfare of the people in spite of propaganda and baseless criticism by his opponents.

He said that the services he rendered during the past four and a half years were matchless. He was addressing ulema and elders from Mardan at CM House here on Wednesday.

The chief minister said that for the first time in the history of province the development budget had been increased by 80 per cent and its volume had now reached Rs95 billion.

He said the fruits of additional resources attained by the province would be extended to every nook and corner of the province and development resources would be distributed among districts as per their rights. — Bureau Report

Recovery of VC demanded

MARDAN, Sept 12: Aman Jirga Khyber Pakhtunkhwa staged a hunger strike camp in front of the Mardan Press Club on Wednesday to press the federal and provincial governments for early recovery of Islamia College University vice-chancellor Prof Dr Ajmal Khan and his driver Mohibullah, who were abducted by militants two years back.

Leaders of different political parities and civil society members participated in the hunger strike camp. Besides the jirga provincial president, Syed Kamal Shah, and general secretary Arshid Manan, the abducted VC’s brother, Mustafa Kamal, Riaz Painda Khel of PTI, Hamayun Khilji of PPP-S, Maulana Qasiruddin of JUI-F and others were also present.

Syed Kamal Shah and other key figures who spoke on the occasion said despite being a close relative of ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan the provincial government was not taking serious interest to get the VC released from the custody of militants. — Correspondent

Literacy walk

GHALANAI, Sept 12: A literacy walk was held in a remote area of Mohmand tribal region on Wednesday to create awareness about basic education among the tribesmen.

The walk was organised at the Government Girls Primary School Tamash Kore Pandiali by the Human Resource Development Network (HRDN) and Unicef.

HRDN organisers Shakeel Khan and Farooq Khan, assistant agency education officer (female) Noreen Inayat and other people connected to the education sector as well as students from various institutes participated in the walk.

Girl students presented songs on education and literacy at a function held at the end of the walk.

Addressing the function, Ms Noreen asked the female teachers to perform their duties devotedly for the betterment of the younger generation and urged the parents to send their girls to school. —Correspondent

Power thieves booked

PESHAWAR, Sept 12: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company has registered FIRs against 32 people for using electricity through illegal means.

According to a Pesco statement issued here on Wednesday, the detection and recovery teams of the power company are successfully achieving their targets throughout the province. During its campaign, these teams have recovered an amount of Rs400,000 from defaulters.

It was stated that the drive against illegal use of electricity and recovery of arrears from defaulters would continue. Pesco has once again warned electricity stealers to stop power pilferage in the larger interest of the country, due to which Pesco has to face huge financial losses on one hand and on the other hand Pesco’s whole distribution system gets over loaded and the general public faces inconvenience of frequent power break downs and to reduce load shedding. — Bureau Report

Role of education highlighted

KHAR, Sept 12: Education plays an important role in the development of the tribal areas and only education can eliminate militancy in the region.

This was stated by Bajaur Agency assistant political agent Jehangir Azam Wazir while addressing a ceremony held here on Wednesday in connection with World Literacy Day.

Speakers in their speeches highlighted the importance of literacy, saying that education was basic right of all humans.

They said that the purpose of the international literacy days was to focus attention on the need for mass literacy and to highlight the importance and significance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies.

On this occasion students of the different schools presented various national songs, tableaus and comedy plays which were highly appreciated by the audience. — Correspondent
