LAHORE, Sept 8: A man in his 50s was tortured to death allegedly by his neighbours following a parking dispute in Safanwala Bazaar in Factory Area on Saturday.

Police inquiries showed that Abdul Majeed was attacked and punched repeatedly by suspects Akbar and his accomplices Arshad and Arsalan after the former objected to Akbar who parked his pick up in front of the victim’s house. Both had a quarrel and they exchanged hot words.

Majeed turned unconscious and was taken to hospital where he died. Shahdara police said 35-year-old Rana Amanat of Kala Khitai Road was shot at and killed by two motorcyclists near Shahdara Mor.

Police said Amanat, who worked in Mayo Hospital’s accounts branch, was returning home by a car at the time of the incident.

The preliminary police inquiries showed that Amanat, a father of three, had developed enmity in his locality.

Factory Area police said 55-year-old Salma was found strangled at home in Gulistan Colony.

Her husband Abul Hameed told police that he spotted the body after reaching home. Hameed contracted second marriage with Salma. Police began investigation into the blind murder.

Chuhng police said a 26-year-old man was found murdered in city link canal in front of EME Housing Society.

Police said the body of the victim, not yet identified, was floating in the canal when someone alerted the police.

Investigators found marks of bruises on different body parts.

Township police recovered the body of an unidentified 14-year-old boy from the College Road drain and shifted it for autopsy.

Police said investigators apparently didn’t find any signs of violence on the body. The autopsy report would determine the exact cause of death.

Robberies: Robbers plundered cash and valuables worth hundreds of thousands in four major hits in the city on Saturday.

Three robbers barged into the house of Zeeshan in Nawab Town police limits, looted cash and valuables worth Rs500,000 by holding all family members at gunpoint and fled.

Some robbers stormed into the house of Afzal in Green Town police precincts and took away cash and valuables worth Rs350,000.

Some robbers burst into the house of Tayyaba in Baghbanpura police jurisdiction and escaped after looting cash and valuables worth Rs300,000.

Some robbers entered the house of Imtiaz in Naseerabad police limits and looted cash and valuables to the tune of Rs250,000.
