LAHORE, Aug 12: Police killed an alleged robber in an encounter while outlaws made off with cash and valuables worth more than Rs1 million in five hits in the city on Sunday.

Badami Bagh police said a robber was killed while two others managed to escape after crossfire with the police on Ring Road in early hours.

Police claimed a Kotwali CIA police team led by SI Akram standing at picket signalled an applied-for car to stop, but the car occupiers accelerated the vehicle.

Policemen began a chase which led to the firing by the suspects. The accused tried to flee after leaving the car. Police returned fire which killed one of the suspects identified as Javed alias Baggi of Factory Area. Police seized the car and a weapon from the spot, shifted the body for autopsy and registered a case.

Two robbers entered the house of real estate agent Muhammad Sharif in Old Kahna, held all family members hostage at gunpoint, looted Rs900,000 and a gold ring and fled.

Two robbers entered Zarafar General Store in Shadbagh police limits and escaped after looting Rs35,000 from the owner.

The same robbers looted cash and a cell phone from a shop situated at Misri Shah police limits.

Four robbers entered a Service Shoe Store at Chungi Amar Sidhu, looted cash in thousands and several cell phones and fled.

Four robbers approached journalist Masood Khan Soodi in Garden Town police limits and deprived him of Rs70,000 and a cell phone. — Staff Reporter
