GUJRANWALA, Aug 11: The Anti-Terrorism Court-II ordered on Saturday release of 32 accused allegedly involved in torching a train at Kamoki railway station during a protest against power loadshedding against Rs100,000 surety bonds each.

Counsel for the accused pleaded during the hearing of the bail plea that his clients were not present on the scene when some miscreants burnt the ‘Babu Train’ some two months ago and that Wazirabad railway police implicated them in the case without any justification.

The judge, Wamiq Javed, accepted the plea and ordered release of the accused on surety bonds worth Rs100,000 each.

The Wazirabad railway police and Kamoki city police had registered a case against around 1,000 people for attacking railway station and torching the train during an anti-outages protest and those arrested were sent to jail on judicial remand.

SUSPENDED: Four policemen, including an SHO and an investigation officer, were suspended from service for embezzlement and inefficiency and were issued show-cause notices by the regional police officer on Saturday.

Reports said Sadar SHO inspector Mehmood Butt was suspended from service for his alleged involvement in land grabbing in Khiali. RPO Ameen Vains also issued him a show-cause notice.

A Kamoki Sadar police sub-inspector Muhammad Waris, stock room in charge head constable Abid Shah and his deputy constable Hafiz Yasin were suspended from service for embezzling a huge quantity of charas seized by police.

ARRESTED: Sadar police on Saturday claimed to have arrested about a dozen members of notorious gangs of highwaymen and drug pushers and seized a large quantity of narcotics and a vehicle used in crime from them.

Sadar SP Syed Junaid Arshed said eight kilograms of charas, 200 bottles of liquor, four pistols, a 12 bore gun, 6 stolen motorcycles, 2 cars, a mini-truck and steel scrap were recovered from the accused.

CTO: Chief Traffic Officer Asghar Yousaf Zai suspended 10 wardens, including two inspectors, from service over inefficiency and negligence on Saturday.

He also transferred female DSP licensing branch Ms Farkhanda on a complaint. He sealed licensing branch and ordered departmental inquiry into the matter.
