SARGODH, March 19: An Anti-Terrorism Court on Monday sent former MPA Muhammad Aslam Midhyana on judicial remand after police told the judge they din’t need his personal custody as investigation had been completed in the case pertaining to torture of a retired schoolteacher.

A couple of days ago, Midh Ranjha police had sought a 10-day physical remand of Midhyana on the ground that lethal weapons allegedly used for torturing the elderly teacher, Nafees Lodhi, on Jan 19 were to be recovered and whereabouts of the four absconding accused were to be known.

The judge had granted a five-day physical remand and directed the police to produce Midhyana again on March 22. However, in a surprise move the police produced Midhyana in the court on Monday. The four absconding accused have been declared proclaimed offenders.

The complainant had accused the former MPA and his associates of subjecting him to torture using lethal weapons but the medico-legal examination proved no firearm injury on victim’s body.
