KARACHI, March 2: A joint team of police and the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) conducted a raid in Surjani Town early Friday and recovered a doctor, kidnapped about a week ago. Two suspects were also arrested in the raid.

CPLC chief Ahmed Chinoy, briefing the media about the raid, said that an FIR (96/2012) was lodged at the police station about the kidnapping of Dr Khalid Mehboob, 50, on Feb 25. The victim, a resident of North Karachi, ran his clinic in Surjani Town.

Later, the doctor’s family received a call from the kidnappers, who demanded a ransom of Rs2 million, Mr Chinoy said. However, he said, the victim was recovered and two suspects, Haroon and Altaf, were arrested in a raid in Khuda Ki Basti, Surjani Town.

Arms and ammunition were also seized from the suspects, he said.— Staff Reporter
