KARACHI: A former leader of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and key members of the banned People's Amn Committee were booked on Thursday in the murder case of a youngster in Lyari which sparked violence in the city's oldest neighbourhood on Wednesday, police said.

They said Uzair Baloch who became the People's Amn Committee chief after Abdul Rehman Baloch - better known as Rehman Dakait who was killed in a 'police encounter' - and his deputy Zafar Baloch, who till recently served as the PPP's general secretary in district south, were formally nominated in the FIR (29/2012) lodged with the Kalri police station.

"The FIR has been registered on behalf of victim Ali Muhammad aka Baba's father, Hanif Muhammad," said Kalri SHO Inspector Safdar Mashwani.

"The FIR has been lodged under Sections 302 (premeditated murder), 109 (punishment of abetment if the act abetted committed in consequence and where no express provision is made for its punishment) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code against those two (Uzair Baloch and Zafar Baloch) and their unknown aides."
