Land dispute claims life

NOWSHERA, Feb 15: A man was killed over a land dispute in Nowshera Kalan here on Wednesday.

Aurangzeb, resident of Manki Sharif, lodged an FIR in Nowshera Kalan police station that he was going home along with his nephew Alamgeer Khan when Abdullah Shah, Shah Iran, Hashmat and Habib Alam started indiscriminate firing on them, killing Alamgeer on the spot. Police have started investigation.

Meanwhile, a woman who had suffered serious burn injuries in her house at Kuterpan, Risalpur, on Sunday, died in a Peshawar hospital on Wednesday. The victim was buried along side her three daughters, who were also killed during the incident, at Kuterpan graveyard. —Correspondent

Selling, flying kites banned

PESHAWAR, Feb 15: The district administration here on Wednesday banned selling and flying kites for one month to avoid any casualties.

District Coordination Officer (DCO) Peshawar Siraj Ahmed Khan imposed section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure banning the manufacturing and flying of kites, said a press release issued here. The decision was taken after receiving complaints of different people.

The DCO warned that those violating the ban would be sent to jail. —Bureau Report

Promoting health, hygiene

PESHAWAR, Feb 15: Schoolchildren presented skits and delivered speeches during a function held here on Wednesday to promote healthy and hygienic practices.

The function was organised by a multinational company in collaboration with the Pakistan Medical Association and the Infectious Disease Society of Pakistan at Nishtar Hall. The students of Khyber Grammar School, Frontier Model School, Racines School System and Warsak Model School participated in the function.

The students sang songs and presented skits and speeches to highlight the importance of health and hygiene. They also took part in a drawing competition.

Provincial Minister for Information Mian Iftikhar Hussain, who was the chief guest on this occasion, said that provision of clean environment to children was the prime responsibility of each and every citizen. —Bureau Report

Death condoled

LAKKI MARWAT, Feb 15: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar, provincial ministers Bashir Ahmad Bilour and Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Senator Salim Saifullah Khan and Chief Secretary Ghulam Dastageer paid a short visit to the district on Wednesday.

Soon after their arrival they went to Meenakhel Fort in Lakki City where they expressed their deep condolences with former bureaucrat Akhtar Munir Khan Marwat over the death of his elder brother former provincial minister Anwar Kamal Khan Marwat. They offered fateha for the deceased and expressed sympathies with the members of bereaved family.

Late Anwar Kamal’s sons Nasir Kamal, Mansoor Kamal and Taimur Kamal, RPO Bannu Feroze Shah, DCO Lakki Nisar Ahmad, DPO Gulzar Ali Khan, former tehsil nazim Fareedullah Khan, former district naib nazim Arifullah Khan, PML leaders Haji Aslam Khan and Barrister Abid Nawaz Khan were also present on the occasion. —Correspondent

MA English results

MANSEHRA, Feb 15: A private candidate, Maria Imran, has clinched top position in the master’s of English examination of Hazara University.

Mohammad Sadiq, the controller of examinations, said in a press release that that a private candidate, Maria Imran, grabbed first position with 662 marks, Sadia Farak of Government Postgraduate College, Haripur, second with 651 marks and Nighat Sultana of Government Postgraduate College, Abbottabad, third position with 635 marks. “It’s a great honour for me that my daughter clinched top position in MA English as a  private candidate, as I could not afford heavy expenses of university for her education,” Mohammad Imran, father of Maria, told reporters. —Correspondent

Tehsildar booked for fraud

KOHAT, Feb 15: The anti-corruption department has registered fraud case against a tehsildar of revenue department for illegally transferring land of a woman under fake thumb impression of her namesake.

The victim, Ms Nazneen, had told the anti corruption team that the tehsildar of Kohat, Naveed Ahmed, along with Ayaz Gul, Mohammad Zubair, Faizullah, Bashir and Faisal Mahmood had transferred her land fraudulently to her namesake. The land was located in the Chakarkot area of the city.

The anti corruption department sent the thumb impressions on both the transfer letter and the victim’s to the laboratory for checking. The results showed that thumb impressions did not match. The other Ms Nazneen, whose name had been written under the fake thumb impression, lived in Karachi and was not aware of any land transfer. —Correspondent

Man kills two

MINGORA, Feb 15: A man allegedly killed his sister-in-law and another man when he found them in compromising position in their house in Khwazakhela area of Swat and surrendered to the police along with the weapon on Wednesday.

According to the police, Mohammadullah came to the police station along with a dagger and an axe and said that he had killed his sister-in-law and a man for saving family’s honour on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday. The police took the two bodies into custody and arrested the accused. —Correspondent
