Four of a family killed

MARDAN, Jan 15: Four persons were killed and six others injured over a family feud in Qayum Abad Toru area in the jurisdiction of Toru police station on Saturday night.

Police said the accused Noor-ul-Amin, Mohammad Anees, Sabir, Bahadur Shah and Amin broke into the house of their maternal uncle, Fakir Shah, and opened indiscriminate fire killing his wife Gohara, son Wajid Ali Shah, daughter Surraia Khanam and son-in-law Jawad Hussain on the spot. Six other family members also received bullet injuries.

The injured persons were identified as Farida Khanam, Siyad Mohammad, Mohammad Daniyal, Najma, Maryam Wisal, and Naila Aziz.All the injured were rushed to Mardan Medical Complex, however, three of them were shifted to Peshawar in critical condition.

Fakir Shah registered FIR in Toru police station against all the accused, who had made their escape good soon after committing the murders. He told police that an old enmity between the two families led to this fatal incident.—Correspondent

Transporters call off strike

SWABI, Jan 15: The district transporters have called off the wheel-jam strike scheduled to be held today (Monday) after assurance by the district administration and traffic police that their demands would be met.

Sources said assistant coordination officer, traffic police head and transporters held a fruitful meeting on Sunday to sort out their grievances. District transport association president Waqif Khan, Swabi general bus stand president Hakim Khan and Topi general bus stand president Abdullah Jan were present.

Three days back the transporters gave a call for observing a wheel-jam strike on Jan 16 against the district administration’s failure to increase the fare after raise in the price of CNG and petroleum products. They demanded a new fare list for all routes.The sources said in talks the transporters presented a list of demands to the authorities, asking them to take appropriate steps to resolve their problems. — Correspondent

Woman seeks justice

KARAK, Jan 15: A woman has demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief to direct Karak police to arrest killers of her son.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, the wife of Bilawar Khan said her young son was killed by their enemies in her native village of Zarki Nusrati in broad daylight. But she regretted that police had yet to arrest his killers. She said the killers were roaming around without any fear of police as they were influential and police could not dare to make a raid on their house.

The woman claimed that she had time and again requested the police high ups to help arrest the killers of her son but to no avail. She demanded of the IGP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to take notice and arrest the killers. She also pleaded the chief justice of the Peshawar High Court to take suo motu notice. — Correspondent

Senate elections

PESHAWAR, Jan 15: A leader of All Pakistan Minorities Alliance, Salman Prince, has submitted an application at the central secretariat of Pakistan People’s Party for the reserved seat of Senate for minorities from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to a press release issued here, Salman Prince is the brother of PPP MPA Prince Jawed. According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan the Senate polls would be held on March 2.

A seat from each province is reserved for minorities in the Senate. — Bureau Report

Arfa’s death condoled

PESHAWAR, Jan 15: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti and Governor Barrister Masood Kausar expressed grief and sorrow over the said demise of Arfa Kareem Randhawa, the youngest Microsoft certified professional.

In a condolence message to her father, Mr Hoti said that the death of Arfa Kareem was a great loss to the country. He said she was a very intelligent child and played a vital role in Microsoft's world.

He prayed to Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear the loss with patience and fortitude.In his message, Barrister Masood Kausar expressed deep shock and sorrow over death of Arfa Kareem, the world's youngest information technology wizard. He said Pakistan had been deprived of a young hero.

The governor said the role and services of Arfa in image building of the nation especially at a very crucial time of country’s history would be remembered forever.—APP
