LAHORE: The funeral prayers of the youngest Microsoft Certified Professional was offered in Lahore on Sunday and her remains are now being taken to Faisalabad for the burial, DawnNews reported.

Prayers for Arfa Karim were offered at Cavalry Ground, where the Chief Minister of Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif was also present along with a large number of crowds belonging to different age groups.

Arfa will be buried in her village near Faisalabad.

Arfa went into coma on November 22, and Microsoft’s founder Bill Gates took special interest in her treatment and set up an international panel of doctors for her treatment. The panel perpetually kept in contact with Pakistani physicians via teleconference.

The young girl made headlines when she was named the youngest Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP). She was also invited by Bill Gates to visit Microsoft’s headquarters in the US.

The sudden demise of Arfa triggered a wave of sorrow in the country. Prime Minster Yousuf Raza Gilani, President Asif Ali Zardari, chief ministers, governors of the provinces and others paid tribute to her and offered their condolences upon her death.

Having lived overseas for most of life, unfortunately I have only come to know about Arfa Karim and her tremendous accomplishments after her sad passing. Even still, I have been in tears (mid-twenties male) for the last two days- I cannot imagine the pain felt by those who followed her life and achievements, people who had the pleasure of meeting her, and of course, her loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
This was a truly gifted child. After having now viewed some of her interviews I am most impressed with not just her level of intellect, maturity and capability, but also her humbleness, which speaks volume about her parent’s.
My purpose for posting this message goes beyond just expressing my emotional response. My intent is to also send a message to all the parents in Pakistan. This being, to take a page out of Arfa’s parent’s book. To all the parents, please constantly encourage your child. It is quiet evident that our land is blessed with talented and gifted people. It is important to recognize this and create an environment, that facilitates your child’s growth and not hinder it.
Arfa Karim: I have known about you for not more than two days and some how I feel like I have lost a baby sister I never had. May Allah give you a place in heaven. Ameen

Arfa Karim is a beacon to follow for the youth of Pakistan. Like her many of our young boys and girls have exceptional talents and they should continue to sharpen them and emerge as global figures. As for her sad demise I guess God calls back early his near and dear ones. I as a Pakistani am extremely proud of her achievement and pray that her soul rest in eternal peace.

Had she been blessed with good age, surly she would have brought honor and pride for herself, her family and country. I pray to God to rest her soul in best of his places. I remember a urdu shair which ends like ” HASRAT TO UN GOONCHO PE HAY JO BIN KHILLE MURJAH GAYE.” I send my full sympathy to the breaved family. Waheguru una nu dukh sahen di takat ate honsla daye.

As all these comments reflect, the whole nation is in a state of shock and mourning. Amazing as this daughter of the nation was, her extraordinarily brave father made it all the more memorable with his statement to the media after Arfa’s death. He said exactly what Islam taught us on the subject: “She was an amanat of Allah Almighty with us, Who has taken it back. We must bow our heads before Him …”. Salute to this brave family. May Almighty shower His choicest bounties upon the soul of Arfa and grant fortitude to her parents and all other members of the family. Amen.

“Towering genius disdains a beaten path, it seeks regions hitherto unexplored”

    (Abraham Lincoln).

The same goes to Afra Karim who explored her hidden genius for science and technology at a much young age and perfected it with such a zenith that flabbergasted the whole world. Yes she was the world’s youngest Microsoft Certified Professional the award bestowed on her in 2004. Being a Tech-genius she elicited numerous medals and certificates. The first, at least, among the Pakistani Youth who qualified for the opportunity to make a successful flight at Dubai Flying Club at the age of 10 only. Afra was honored with a much coveted invitation by MicroSoft Corporation to attend the Tech-Ed Developers conference held in Barcelona in November 2006. There she was the only person that represented Pakistan.

Yesterday, the news of the unanticipated demise of the young lady fell on the nation like a bolt from the blue leaving us petrified as well as bewildered. It is hard for one that how to responds to this tragic event.

Even skies wept over her early death. It is, without any shadow of doubt, a big loss to the nation. In her interview to a private TV channel she reflected her noble intentions of establishing an “IT VALLEY” with the name ‘DIGICON VALLEY” for the betterment of Pakistan especially in the field of digital technology. No wonder the invaluable pearl is not among us now and the pangs of her departure will be felt for quite a long across the country but her legacy, indeed, will live beyond her death. She will live forever in the hearts of Pakistanis with her innocent smiling face. The authorities concerned should take a serious note of this happening in terms of providing the basic infrastructure to all those who have the potential like Afra. That alone will turn her dreams into reality.

A very sad news indeed! May Allah give courage to her parents and make Jannah her everlasting abode (Aameen).
It would be a befitting tribute to the departing soul if one of the Pakistani universities (such as LUMS or Nimal) establish a college or institute of Informatics / Computer Sciences in her name: ‘Arfa Karim College of Informatics.’
Ideally, such a step should be taken by the government, but that’s calling for moon and stars. However, I am pretty confident people will respond to any call for donations by any university should it need funds to start such a project.
