Kidnapper shifted to Karachi

RAWALPINDI, Jan 10: A suspect wanted by the Sindh police for his alleged involvement in the kidnapping of a 10-month-old boy was shifted to Karachi on Tuesday as he was arrested from Mardan, sources said.

Lal Karim Khan had allegedly kidnapped Mohammad Abdullah; a 10-month-old baby boy from Gulistan-i-Johr, Karachi on Dec 25, 2011 and had been hiding in his native town, Mardan since the baby was recovered from his sister’s home.

Following investigation, two officials of Sindh police reached Mardan and arrested Lal Khan and later shifted him to Karachi through a flight. — Staff Reporter

Inquiry against RTMA official

RAWALPINDI, Jan 10: An inquiry initiated against building inspector of Rawal Town Municipal Administration (RTMA) on Tuesday for his alleged involvement in providing assistance for the construction of commercial building without getting formal approval from the civic body.

Rawal Town Administrator Saif Anwar Jappa on Tuesday took this action against Building Inspector Abdul Qayyum for helping the owner to construct commercial building at Railway Road near Dhoke Ratta.

Mr Jappa said that he had conducted a surprise visit to the area and directed building inspector to take action against the owner for violating the rules but the said inspector did not take action and use delaying tactics.

Upon this, the administrator took disciplinary action against the building inspector. — A Reporter

PPP candidate’s papers

ATTOCK, Jan 10: Election tribunal of Lahore High Court (LHC), Rawalpindi Bench, has accepted nomination papers of PPP candidate Malik Muhammad Sameen Khan to contest by-elections of provincial assembly seat PP-18, Attock-IV.

Earlier, Returning Officer (RO) Muhammad Nadeem Khan rejected the nomination of Malik Sameen on Jan 2 as his rival candidate Bashir Ahmed raised some objections over his papers.

As per election office sources, a three-member election tribunal  of LHC Rawalpindi Bench set aside the decision of the RO by admitting the appeal of petitioner Sameen Khan.

According to the election schedule, the last date for withdrawal of candidature is Jan 12, after which, the final list will be displayed on Jan 13 at the office of Assistant Election Commissioner. — Correspondent

Smuggling bid foiled

TAXILA, Jan 10:  A bid to smuggle charas from Hazara to Punjab was foiled on Tuesday. Police sources said during checking on Taxila-Hattar Road at Ahata check post, police officials signaled a Suzuki pickup (IDF-7960) to stop but the driver ignored the signal and sped away.

Later, on chasing, the driver parked the vehicle at the side of the road and escaped. On search, the police recovered huge quantity of charas from the vehicle. — Correspondent

Laid to rest

ISLAMABAD, Jan 10: Wife of former deputy attorney general M. Bilal Advocate, who breathed her last early Tuesday, was laid to rest at H-11 graveyard. She was mother of Legal Adviser to FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing Tariq Bilal, Advocate, Babar Bilal Advocate and Shazia Bilal Advocate.

Qul of the deceased will be held on Thursday from 2pm to 4:30pm at House No 100-A Satellite Town, Rawalpindi. — Staff Reporter
