Former peace body head killed

TANK, Jan 5: The former commander of a local peace committee was killed allegedly by Taliban militants on late Wednesday night, police said.

The beheaded body of Umar Gul, former head of peace committee of Warki village, was found in a nearby canal after he was taken away from his house by three men late last night.

“Three persons took him last night and then left a chit beside his body, warning people not to participate in his funeral,” police quoted a brother of the deceased as saying.

Taliban have killed at least seven peace committee heads in the past two months. Although Taliban hadn’t claimed responsibility for the murder yet police said that the deceased was killed in typical Taliban style.
