Three of a family killed

CHAKWAL, Nov 28: A couple and their minor daughter were killed in a traffic accident, police said on Monday.

Mohammad Farhan, a resident of Pachnand village was going to his home from Talagang city along with his wife Aafreen and four-month old daughter on a car (ISB 612) when a speeding passenger van (C2634) coming from the opposite side rammed into their car.

Resultantly, the three of them died at the spot. Police registered a case against the driver of the van who managed to escape from the scene. — Correspondent

Three drugs smugglers held

TAXILA, Nov 28: The Wah Cantonment police on Monday claimed to have foiled bids to smuggle narcotics and arrested three persons.

Subdivisional police officer Raja Taifoor Akhter told newsmen that police recovered over one kilogramme charas from Rukan Zaman, 1.50 kg charas from Ilyas Khan and over one kg chares from Ahmed Farooq.

The Taxila police recovered two stolen vehicles bearing fake numbers (LEC-8459 and LEA-1065) and arrested its drivers identified as Saddam Hussain and Khadim Shah. — Correspondent

Martyrs laid to rest

CHAKWAL, Nov 28: Two soldiers who lost their lives in the raid of Nato helicopters were buried here with full military honour.

Sepoy Rizwan Abbas, 24 and Hawaldar Mohammad Mumtaz fell prey to the deadly attack of Friday night.

Rizwan Abbas was laid to rest in his native village in tehsil Kallar Kahar while Mohammad Mumtaz was buried in his village in tehsil Chakwal.

A contingent of Pak Army presented an honorary salute to the bodies of both the martyrs and thousands of people attended the funeral prayers.Advisor to the chief minister of Punjab, Raja Ashfaq Sarwar along with MNA Sardar Mumtaz Tamman, MPA Malik Tanvir Aslam Sethi, DPO Kashif Mushtaq Kanju and DCO Ahmad Aziz Tarar laid wreaths on their graves. — Correspondent

Highwaymen loot expat woman

GUJAR KHAN, Nov 28: A Pakistani expatriate woman was deprived of gold ornaments, valuables and currency notes while traveling on GT road on her way home here on Monday, the police sources said.

According to police sources Bilal Akram, a resident of Sialkot reported to the police that he and other family members received his mother at Benazir Bhutto International Airport on her return from USA on Monday morning. As they were traveling on GT road and reached Majeed More area  near Gujar Khan city, a car that was chasing them intercepted their vehicle at gun point and forced all the family members to hand them over belongings,  gold ornaments and currency. The looters later fled away.

The police have registered a case and started further investigation. — Correspondent

Swindlers booked for fraud

ATTOCK, Nov 28: Fatehjang police have registered a fraud case against two swindlers on receiving bribe from the bakery owners under the pretext of checking.

Police sources said that a bakery owner Mohammad Ramzan reported to local station that Mohammad Shafique and Babar, introducing themselves as food inspectors visited his bakery for checking. Later on, they asked for and received Rs9,000 as bribe from him to escape checking, failing which, they warned that he would be booked in selling unhygienic food. The said persons have also received bribe of Rs5,000 from two other neighboring bakeries. Later on, police revealed that both were swindlers and had also robbed other shopkeepers in a similar way by displaying green number plate on their vehicle.

Fatehjang police, after registering a fraud case against the swindlers, have started investigation.—Correspondent

400 residents fined

ISLAMABAD, Nov 28: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has imposed fine on around 400 residents for violating anti- littering law.

Talking to APP on Monday, Director Sanitation, Captain (retired) Mohammad Faiz said the process of imposing fine from Rs50 to Rs300 on the spot for throwing litter, was started some two months back. He said the Sanitation Directorate had formally deputed the task force in Sector F-6, F-7 and F-10 and now in F-11 and fine was being imposed during the third phase of the ongoing anti-litter drive.

However, vast publicity campaign through banners, pamphlets, messages on large LCDs has been carried out by the CDA during the first and second phase of the drive commencing from April.

He said that the purpose of imposing fine was to discourage throwing of garbage and junk in an ill-planned manners and raise awareness among the people in this regard as no municipality of the world could succeed in keeping the city clean without cooperation of the residents. — APP
