RAWALPINDI, Nov 22: As many as 14 low-ranking policemen, detailed on security of the three under-trial prisoners who were gunned down by their rivals in the district court premises, were booked by the police on charges of negligence, although none of them has been arrested.
The inquiry, ordered by the City Police Officer (CPO) Azhar Hameed Khokhat was carried out by the Senior Superintendent of Police Operation Yasin Farooq, had also recommended departmental action against the two deputy superintendents of police (DSPs), Chaudhry Tariq, posted at Civil Lines while the other one Malik Arshad posted at Waris Khan Circle.
The fate of two SHOs, inspector Raja Rashid and Raja Musadiq would be decided by the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Mohammad Zubair.
The CPO when contacted said: “The police efforts are underway to arrest the 14 police constables booked in the incident.”
The sources said of the 14 policemen, five had been associated with the highly trained Quick Response Force (QRF) wing, the five others were from the regular district police and the remaining four others were those who were deployed at the entry gate.
On the other side, the police investigating into one of the famous murder cases, has got the cell phone calls data of the ‘facilitator’ Wajid Iqbal - court official (reader of a female civil judge) to establish his contacts with one of the three killers arrested by the police.
The source close to the investigation revealed that the phone data collected by the police disclosed that both Wajid Iqbal and Mazhar alias Majoo had made ten calls to each other on that day which was unusual. And Khyzir had one call to the court official Wajid Iqbal on early Saturday morning.
The police said though the court official had been in their custody since last Wednesday, his formal arrest had been put in pending for a couple of days as police had still been waiting for the committee’s final report to decide his fate.
