KARACHI: Karachi remains constantly under the threat of terrorism and the police are playing a significant role in thwarting attacks, Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Hussain Wasan said.

“Policemen are doing their best and sacrificing their lives in the line of duty,” he said.

Wasan was speaking to media representatives after offering funeral prayers at Police Lines Garden for the two policemen who were killed in an encounter with alleged terrorists late on Wednesday night.

He said the police had successfully thwarted a major act of terrorism as the five alleged terrorists were well equipped and had a huge quantity of explosives.

Wasan said that on the lead from the registration plate number of the van, the police had managed to arrest two accused and a probe had been initiated against them.

He said the arrests had been made after raids in Hyderabad and later in Karachi.
