Call to withdraw Form-D

RAWALPINDI, Nov 5: Threatening to go for protests and shutter-down strike, the traders on Saturday demanded of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to withdraw Form-D from income tax returns.

They said that section 9 of Form-D of income tax return included details of children, spouse, education, local and foreign tours and personal cars therefore it was unacceptable for the traders’ community.

President Central Traders Union Rawalpindi Cantonment Zahid Bakhtawri in a meeting with the union office-bearers on Saturday said that the traders had a unanimous demand from FBR to withdraw Form-D from income tax returns otherwise they would launch a countrywide protest.

He said that keeping in view the worsening economic situation in the country, the government would not allow the traders to observe shutter down strike to get their demand fulfilled by the FBR.

The traders asked the federal government to withdraw the conditions besides extending the date for filing income tax returns.

They said that they would not file the returns until the Form-D was withdrawn.

“There are other options for widening tax net in the country and we extend support to the FBR to generate more revenue through the taxes. But we would not accept any move which is targeted only at the traders’ community,” Mr Bakhtwari said. — Our Reporter
