20 cable TV licences

ISLAMABAD, Oct 27: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) awarded cable TV licences in 12 tehsils to the qualified companies through bidding here on Thursday.

The licences were awarded with the view to providing quality entertainment, information and education to the masses in all parts of the country.

Earlier, Pemra had invited Expressions of Interest (EoIs) in this regard initially for 116 tehsils, but only 20 companies could qualify the criteria for bidding in 12 tehsils. — A Reporter

Man killed on road

CHAKWAL, Oct 27: A man was killed on road as a speeding rickshaw hit him, police said on Thursday.

Syed Rehman was crossing the road when a rickshaw driven by Mohibullah hit him near Sabzi Mandi at Talagang Road. He died on the spot. Police registered a case and started efforts to trace the driver who had managed to escape from the scene. — Correspondent

Action against police officials

ATTOCK, Oct 27: As many as 21 police officials including three SHOs were punished for showing misconduct and negligence in their duties. The district police headquarters said here on Thursday that in charge police post Durnol SI Muhamamd Nawaz was suspended due to corruption charges and asked him to report to the police line. Such as, one-year service of 14 Sub Inspectors (SIs) has been forfeited on misconduct while two-year service of three ASIs was also forfeited. Similarly, two-year service  of SHOs of Hasanabdal city and Saddar police stations Inspector Urangzaib and Muhammad Aslam and one-year service of SHO Injra police station Inspector Asif abbass shah have also been forfeited for showing  poor performance. — Correspondent

Man kills wife, himself

TAXILA, Oct 27: A man committed suicide after killing his wife in limits of Wah Cantonment police station on Thursday.

Mohammad Basheer reported to police that his son named Mohammad Asif killed his wife Tasleema Bibi, a nursing student, over domestic dispute by attacking her with a dagger and later stabbed himself dead. Police handed over the bodies of the couple after autopsy at THQ hospital Taxila and started further investigation.—Correspondent
