Tribesman, son kidnapped

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Oct 25: A Wazir tribesman and his son were kidnapped allegedly by their rivals over a land dispute in the precincts of Dera Township police station, officials said here on Tuesday.

Police quoted an FIR lodged by a woman, Nafeesa Nawaz, saying that her husband Rabnawaz and son Ashiq were abducted by their rivals when they were going home for their fields. She nominated Gula Jan Wazir, Azizullah Jan Wazir, Sader Azam Wazir, Bare Azam and Zavel Wazir in the case.

The police said that as per statement of the complainant, the motive behind the kidnapping was a land dispute between the two families. The police are investigating the case. —Correspondent

Doctors observe token strike

LANDI KOTAL, Oct 25: Doctors at the Agency Headquarters Hospital observed a token strike here on Tuesday to protest against the arrest of a son and nephew of hospital’s medical superintendent by the political authorities.

Two young members of Dr Zar Alam’s family were arrested on Monday after an employee of the local fire brigade offices lodged a complaint with the political administration against the doctor for resorting to firing on his house.

The doctors later ended their strike after an assurance by the political administration that the matter would be investigated by an impartial committee. The administration also released the two arrested men. —Correspondent

Cleanliness campaign

PESHAWAR, Oct 25: UN Refugees Affected and Hosting Area (Raha) programme, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has launched a cleanliness week to sensitise the target communities about the importance of health and hygiene.

The community organisations of Raha programme and schoolchildren participated in cleaning activities on the first day of campaign on Tuesday in target union councils of Peshawar and Haripur districts. The campaign will be launched in 13 union councils during the week with focus on cleaning streets, drains, removal of the solid waste and stagnant water from the areas.

A UNDP official said that a session was held at Khazana area of Peshawar to create awareness among the community members about the importance of keeping their environment clean and observing good personal hygiene on sustainable basis. —Bureau Report

US warned against attack

NOWSHERA, Oct 25: Jamaat-i-Islami naib amir Sirajul Haq has said that the American forces would face the consequences if they attacked Pakistan.

The Americans will face stiff resistance not only from Pakistanis but also from inside Afghanistan if they tried to attack Pakistan, he said while speaking at a public meeting at Jahangira here on Tuesday. JI district amir Merajuddin and other leaders were also present at the meeting.

He said that the Americans would meet the same fate as the Britishers who had attacked the region but were defeated. Every citizen of the country would resist the attack, he added.

Sirajul Haq said that the government had destroyed all the state institutions, including Railway. —Correspondent

Arrest of accused demanded

PESHAWAR, Oct 25: The activists of Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT) held a protest demonstration near the press club here on Tuesday against the accused involved in firing inside Government Degree, Charsadda.

The protesters were led by Nazim IJT, Peshawar, Abdul Shakoor, who alleged that workers of Pakhtun Students Federation were involved in the incident that left two students injured. The IJT leader also alleged that the accused were enjoying full support of the local police and were freely roaming in the college.

“We demand of the government to take action against the accused otherwise IJT workers will come on the streets and all the responsibility will rest with the concerned officials,” he warned. —Bureau Report

Non-food items distributed

GHALANAI, Oct 25: The army with the collaboration of political administration on Tuesday distributed non-food items and other commodities among more than 300 families in Baizai tehsil, who had returned home recently.

Col Naeem Khan of army, Lt-Col Khawar Khan of Mohmand Rifles and political tehsildar Javed Khan distributed kits among the returning families in border areas, including Manzari Cheena, Bahi Dag and Tor Khel.

The officials said on the occasion that survey of destroyed houses in militancy hits areas of Mohmand Agency had been completed and reconstruction work would be started soon.Meanwhile, levies force recovered over 4,000 rounds of different bores from a car on its way to Khyber Agency and arrested an accused at a checkpost in Ekkaghud area here on Tuesday. —Correpondent
