KOHAT, Oct 12: On the fifth day of their strike, leaders of All Pakistan Oil Tankers Association on Wednesday threatened to suspend supply to the Nato forces in Afghanistan, Pakistan Railways and the PIA if their just demands, including clearance of dues, were not met by the government immediately.
The association's president Mir Mohammad Yousuf Shahwani told journalists here that they would not supply oil from local Shakardarra fields because the management of Attock refinery and the National Logistic Cell were using delaying tactics and not paying them their dues for the past several months.
Mr Shahwani was accompanied by secretary general Zabta Khan and senior vice president Mohammad Hanif of the central association.
He also criticised the local government for collecting Rs500 per truck as royalty tax at Shakardarra oilfields of Kohat and denial of compensation by the insurance company who had been collecting money from them to help them in case of accident.
He said that the Attock refinery should issue them proper invoices.
POLIO AWARENESS: More than 3,000 families in Kohat district, especially in Jarma town, have deep-seated misconceptions about polio vaccination, said a representative of non-governmental organisation here while quoting a recent survey.
A representative of the National Research Foundation said that they had started work in the area to create awareness of the benefits of polio vaccination by mobilising teachers, ulema and elders in some areas of Kohat district.
He claimed that about 1,000 families in Jarma town alone were against the vaccination of their children due to misleading propaganda by some individuals.
Similarly, he said that there were 2,300 other families in parts of Kohat which did not administer polio drops to their children.
