Man shot dead

KOHAT, Oct 10: A man was shot dead outside his house here on Monday.

Unknown gunmen called Raza Khan out of his house in Ghulam Banda and then shot him dead.

A motorcyclist, Raza Khan, of Lachi town was killed in a road accident.

A trader from Rawalpindi, Abdul Hameed, died of heart attack in old Lachi bus stand. His relatives took his body to home.

The police raided a gambling den in Bilitang and arrested six gamblers and confiscated the stake money. The police seized Rs333,000 cash and prize bonds which had been put at stake.—Correspondent

Shoe factory gutted in Swat

SWAT, Oct 10: A shoe factory was gutted here on Monday, police said. However, cause of the fire could not be known.

Fire suddenly erupted in the shoe factory situated at Khawaja Abad Mingora which engulfed the building in a jiffy. As a result production machinery, raw materials and a chemical store were reduced to ashes besides injuring one Sher Alam. The injured was shifted to Saidu Sharif hospital where his condition was stated to be stable. The fire was put out by the fire brigade and the locals.

SHOT DEAD: A woman and a child died in separate incidents on Monday, police said.

Adalat Bibi, wife of Saifur Rehman, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen started in Khwazakhela, who threw her body into a rainy nullah. The reason behind the killing could not be immediately ascertained.

Meanwhile, a six-year-old child, Hamza, son of Umarzada, died when he fell into a well at Nangolay area.—APP

Man commits suicide

SWABI, Oct 10: A man committed suicide in Maneri Payan area in the jurisdiction of the city police station on Monday.

Mohammad Raiz, who returned home a few days back from the UAE, had developed differences with his mother and brothers and had left the house. It was reported that he shot himself dead when his brothers tried to persuade him to return home.

Meanwhile, body of Irfan Ahmad, who was killed by an Afghani in the United Kingdom, reached home on Monday. He was buried in his ancestral graveyard. Irfan was killed in London on September 29.—Correspondent

Decomposed body found

KARAK, Oct 10: Decomposed body of an unidentified man was found dumped in the limits of Shah Saleem police station on Monday.

Police said the body, which was found in the Koti Kalay area of Shah Saleem, was shifted to the Takht Nusrati civil hospital where it was placed for identification. However, nobody came up to claim the body. Later, the body was laid to rest in Takht Nusrati graveyard.

In another incident, a man was killed and three others injured when a car skidded off the road and fell into a ravine on Madaki road. The victim was identified as Bashir, resident of Bara Khyber Agency. The injured were identified as Junaid, Arshad and Ali.—Correspondent

Eight impostors held

NOWSHERA, Oct 10: The Nowshera police on Monday arrested eight impostors for taking extortion money from oil tankers, carrying oil for Nato forces in Afghanistan, and recovered forged official documents and extortion money from them.

DPO Nowshera Mohammad Hussain said the police, on a tip-off that some people showing themselves police were grabbing Rs15,000 each vehicle at Khaira Abad area, rushed to the site and arrested all the eight imposters and recovered Rs259,000 from them.Meanwhile, a meeting was held at the DCO office to review arrangements for the anti-polio campaign to be launched in the district from October 24. It was attended by heads of various NGOs and officials of education department. The meeting warned the Afghan nationals living in the district not to create hurdles in the smooth running of vaccination drive. —Correspondent

Fata development

PESHAWAR, Oct 10: Governor Barrister Masood Kausar and the senators from Fata on Monday discussed different issues pertaining to law and order and development in the region.

The governor said the development process in tribal areas would continue in consultation with Fata parliamentarians including senators. The Fata senators called on Mr Kausar at the Governor House.

“The government believes in democracy and people’s empowerment and the public representatives will be taken along in every initiative with regard to progress and development of Fata,” he added. The senators raised issues relating to development process. Responding to the senators’ demands the governor assured them that their grievances would be addressed.—Bureau Report
