One shot dead

CHAKWAL, Aug 19: A man was shot dead in the forest near Nagri village in the limits of Kallar Kahar police station on Friday.

Mohammad Razaq, resident of Saithi village told the police that he and his father Mohammad Azam were cutting trees in the jungle near Nagri village when Mohammad Ameer along with Mohammad Ishtiaq, Mohammad Imran and Mohammad Irfan attacked them. He said that Mohammad Ameer opened fire at his father killing him on the spot. The police registered a case and started investigation. — Correspondent

Two kidnappers arrested

ATTOCK, Aug 19: The district police have traced a kidnappers gang and also arrested two of its members in a joint operation with the tribal administration of Sakhakot, Malakand division, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), it has been learnt.

During the operation they also recovered a bank manager, who had been kidnapped on August 10 from Ghorghusti Interchange on M-1 of Hazro police station.

The gang was also involved in the kidnapping of a plaza owner Safdar from Jatiyal village link road of same police station, who was later found dead near Pashtakara village Peshawar district on August 9, police sources said. — Correspondent

Man injured

TAXILA, Aug 19: A man received bullet injuries while resisting a robbery bid in Muneerabad locality in the limits of Wah Saddar police station on Thursday. Sources said that five masked men armed with weapons scaled the wall of the house of Mohammad Jamshaid and took his family hostage at the gunpoint. As he voiced alarm and resisted the bid, the dacoits shot at him and fled the scene. Later, police with the help of sniffer dogs traced three Afghan nationals and arrested them. Further investigation from them was underway. — Correspondent

SSC supplementary exams

RAWALPINDI, Aug 19: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi on Friday extended date for submitting forms for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) supplementary examination.

According to the notification, the board set September 6 for submitting forms with single fee. The candidates will submit forms with double fee till September 9 while the board will receive forms with triple fee till September 20. Earlier, August 22 was the last date. The BISE Rawalpindi will receive the forms manually after failure of the online system. However, the board also urged students to download the forms from its website, www.biserwp.edu.pk.— A Reporter

Poor quality work

RAWALPINDI, Aug 19: Taking serious notice of the low quality of construction work of road and nullah in Purana Qila, Rawal Town Administrator Saif Anwar Jappa on Friday directed the contractor to improve the construction work within seven days otherwise the remaining amount of the contract would be withheld.

The administrator along with RTMA officials visited the area in response to the complaints submitted by the local traders alleging that the contractor had used substandard tiles for the footpaths, material for the construction of main road. They also said that the contractor used old and rusty iron bars to roof the nullah.

The administrator inspected the site and gave seven days to the contractor to replace the rusty bars and reconstruct the road.

He warned that the RTMA would stop the payment if he failed to comply with the orders. He said that the local traders would monitor the development work in commercial areas and they would ensure the use of the quality material in the development schemes. He said that the RTMA would take action against those who found using substandard material in the construction of roads and streets.—A Reporter
