ISLAMABAD, Aug 8: The capital police arrested 822 proclaimed offenders during the current year.

Besides, the police also busted 304 gangs of criminals and rounded up their 1,077 members; said a police spokesman on Monday.

According to a report submitted to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bani Amin Khan; out of the gangs 11 were involved in blind murders whose 26 members were taken into custody.

Four gangs involved in kidnapping for ransom were also busted and 16 alleged kidnappers apprehended.

The City circle police arrested 198 proclaimed offenders, Saddar circle 197, Industrial Area 81 while 346 POs were caught by the Rural circle police.The police also cracked 27 gangs involved in immoral activities and arrested 211 persons. Three gangs involved in rape cases were also busted and their 11 members put behind bars.

Similarly, 15 gangs of robbers, 40 of valuable snatchers, 119 gangs of thieves, 18 of car lifters and eight gangs of stolen vehicle sellers were arrested during the period. In the meantime, 59 gangs involved in miscellaneous crimes were also cracked with the arrest of their 163 members.

The IGP said policemen remained firm against the menace of terrorism and also emerged successful in countering criminal elements, murderers, drug pushers and robbers.
