80 suspects held

ISLAMABAD, June 30: Industrial Area police on Thursday arrested 80 suspects and recovered fake CNICs from their possession during search operation.

A police spokesman said that acting on the directions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bani Amin Khan, zonal in-charge of Industrial Area SP Ishaq Warraich supervised the search operation in sector I-9, I-10 and Sabzi Mandi which led to the arrest of 80 suspects.

Most of the suspects were Pashtoons and had been residing in the area for the last a couple of months and working as labourers.

Fake CNICs were also recovered from 15 suspects while 20 of them had been in jail in connection with different criminal charges and five were the proclaimed offenders. — Staff Reporter

Vehicle snatched

CHAKWAL, June 30: A taxi driver was deprived of his vehicle here on Thursday by the alleged robbers who had hired the cab posing them as passengers.

Yasir Farooq, resident of Mohalla Farooqi of Chakwal reported to Kallar Kahar police that a bearded person hired his cab for Moreed village. He said two other persons also boarded his cab along with the bearded person. —Correspondent

Orientation

ISLAMABAD, June 30: A pre-departure orientation for the Fulbright scholarship was arranged for over 125 students on Thursday.

Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Javaid Laghari and Mark Davidson, public affairs officer of the US embassy, ere present at the orientation, arranged by the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP).

The scholarship covers travel, living stipends, health insurance and tuition for the entire period of study for masters or doctoral degrees at American universities. — A Reporter
