NOWSHERA, June 28: Two Nato oil tankers were destroyed after bombs, which police claimed were planted by the owners of the vehicles, went off here late on Monday night.

Two Nato oil tankers were destroyed here on Monday night in bomb blasts which police claimed were planted by the owners of the vehicles.

An oil tanker was destroyed near Choki Mamraz at 11.30pm and as a result two persons sustained burn injuries. They were taken to Pabbi Satellite Hospital. Another Oil tanker was reduced to ashes after a blast at 2.15am at Azakhel.

When SHO Azakhel Police Station Mir Hussain was contacted, he alleged that both the oil tankers were destroyed by bombs planted by their owners, drivers and cleaners to claim insurance.

He said that the tankers and oil were separately insured with Nato. The SHO claimed that the owners had collected all the documents and permits from the tankers and even changed the tyres before blowing up their vehicles.

Shell hits house

In Upper Dir, a minor was killed and three persons including a woman were injured when a mortar shell hit a house in Sro Kallay village, police and locals said on Tuesday.

However, it could not be ascertained as to who fired the mortar shell. Barawal police confirmed the killing of the minor. The injured were rushed to a local hospital.

The village located on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border has been targeted a couple of times before this month. Security forces were deployed in the area after Afghan Taliban allegedly launched a cross-border attack in Shaltalo and Sro Kallay that killed 27 police and levies personnel.

Attack repulsed

In a separate incident, militants attacked the Ziarat security checkpost along Pak-Afghan border area of Biazai tehsil of Mohmand tribal region on Tuesday.

They used mortars, rockets and other heavy weapons. However,security forces repulsed the attack by using heavy artillery. Several hideouts were pounded in the area.

However, no casualty was reported. Helicopter gunships also pounded militants’ hideouts in Shounkrai, Metai and Alazai areas of Biazai tehsil.

The security forces conducted search operations and claimed clearing the Aliangar, Chamarkand, Sagi Bala and Sagi Payan areas of Safi tehsil and Dawezai area of Pandiali tehsil.
