Precautionary steps

ISLAMABAD, June 19: While the pre-monsoon rains have arrived in the country, the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) has appealed to the public to observe precautionary measures during rains to avoid any fatal incident.

It said consumers should get defective wiring in their homes repaired and use three-pin plug along with proper earthing while using heavy power equipment like iron, washing machine, refrigerator etc.

While drying clothes, ropes should be used instead of electrical wires or water pipe. Children should be instructed not to go near electricity installations while playing during rains.

The residents of rural areas should not tether their cattle with any electricity pole.

People should also remain at least 100 feet away from high-tension wires and in case of electrocution the person should be separated from the wire with a piece of wood or a dry cloth. Iesco also warned the public not to allow any person or animal to go near broken electricity wires. —A Reporter

Four constables suspended

ATTOCK, June 19: Four constables of the City police were suspended for manhandling and teasing some transvestites at a marriage party, it has been learnt.

The constables included Mohammad Zameer, Wasif Mehmood and Kamran. The action was taken by the district police officer (DPO) after a number of transvestites staged a protest rally at Fowarah Chowk against the highhandedness of the constables.

They alleged that the policemen not only stanched money from them but also manhandled them under the garb of security checking.

Meanwhile, the Hazro police released a relative of the van driver who was killed by some unknown people about a week back.

The relatives of the driver, Mohammad Arshad, gathered outside the district police headquarters on Saturday night against what they termed illegal detention of Mohammad Saleem instead of arresting the culprits involved in the robbery cum-killing case.

They demanded that the police high-ups should take notice of the mater. Later, however, the police released the man.

It may be recalled that driver Mohammad Arshad, of Pindwal village, was killed by three robbers, including a girl, after they snatched his vehicle (RIZ-3590) near Yaseen village on June 13. — Correspondent
