Life term for rapist

TAXILA, May 30: The Additional district and Sessions Judge sentenced a policeman to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs70,000 after he was found guilty of raping a 13-year-old girl during illegal detention in Wah Cantonment police station for 21 days.

The rape case was highlighted by national as well as international media during May 2010. President Asif Ali Zardari also took notice of the issue. — Correspondent

2 foreigners given to FIA

ISLAMABAD, May 30: Senior Civil Judge Mohammad Aslam Gondal on Monday allowed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to keep for four days two foreigners charged with living in Pakistan illegally.

An FIA official presented Ibrahim and Bilal Shafiq in the court and sought their 10-day physical remand. But the judge directed the official to produce the detained persons before the court on June 3.

The FIA informed the court that the two foreigners were arrested on May 28. During the course of initial investigations, it transpired that Ibrahim, an Egyptian, had been living in Attock since long with his family without having any legal documents.

Shafiq, a Syrian, was also living in Pakistan illegally and is accused of forging identity cards.— Staff Reporter

Two held in murder case

ATTOCK, May 30: Police here have arrested two persons in connection with a murder case.

On April 11, the police recovered the unidentified body of a man trussed up in a gunny bag near Attock-Sanjwal road.

The body was later buried after postmortem at a hospital. Later, Mukarram Khan, of Peshawar, approached the Attock police and through photographs and clothes of the deceased identified him as his son, Jamshid.

He informed the police that his son left home in his car along with his friends Sharifullah and Tahir Ali but did not return. On this, the police traced both the men who were residing in People’s Colony, Attock city, and also recovered the deceased’s car (LOC-603) from their possession on Monday.

The accused told the police that they killed Jamshid after snatching his car and threw the body near Attock-Sanjwal Road.— Correspondent
