GHALANAI, May 12: One person was killed and three others received injuries when a mortar shell hit a house in Qandaharo area of Mohmand tribal region on Thursday.

Locals said a stray shell fell on the house of Sabaz Ali in Qandaharo area of tehsil Safi, killing one inmate and injuring a woman and two children. The injured were shifted to Peshawar in critical condition.

In another incident, a volunteer of a peace committee identified as Kamil Shah was shot dead in Tarnawal area by unidentified assailants.

In tehsil Pandyali, Ali Haider, a member of Dwaizai Peace Committee, was kidnapped by armed persons.

Mohmand Taliban spokesman Sajjad Mohmand claimed responsibility for the incidents. Talking to journalists at Mohmand Press Club by telephone from an undisclosed location, he said all the people, who were active against Taliban, would meet the same fate.

Meanwhile, cheques were distributed among heirs of 37 victims of December 6, 2010 suicide attack.

Assistant Political Agent Amjad Ali distributed cheques of Rs10.5 million among the relatives of the victims at a ceremony in Ghalanai Jirga Hall. He gave away compensation amount of Rs1 million to heir of each Levies personnel killed in the incident.
