KARACHI, May 5: Two men were on Thursday sentenced to three years in prison in a robbery case.

An assistant additional district and sessions court found Riaz Khurram and David guilty of robbing the complainant and his mother within the remit of the Brigade police station in August 2010.

The judge, Sarwat Sultana, pronounced the judgment after recording evidence of witnesses and final arguments from both sides.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs5,000 each and in case of non-payment of the fine the convicts would have to undergo an additional one-month imprisonment. The court in its judgment observed that prosecution witnesses had fully implicated the accused in the commissioning of the offence and both the victims had identified the accused in court.

The stolen articles were also recovered from the possession of the accused, it added.

According to the prosecution, the accused intercepted Obaidullah and his mother on Aug 21, 2010 and deprived them of cash, jewellery and cellphones and also took away their motorcycle. The accused were arrested on Aug 28.

A case (258/2010) was registered under Sections 392 (punishment for robbery) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on a complaint of the victim.
