Robbers injure shopkeeper

TAXILA, April 12: Robbers shot and injured a shopkeeper when he resisted them in the limits of Taxila police station on Tuesday evening.

Police sources said that two men posing themselves as customers came to sweet shop located on Museum road and make owner of the shop Malik Mohammad Naveed hostage and started looting.

When he resisted they shot him two bullets and fled away with looted booty including cash, mobile phones and mobile cards. He was taken to THQ hospital from where he was shifted to DHQ hospital Rawalpindi due to his critical condition. —Correspondent

Body recovered

ATTOCK, April 12: A body of an unknown person with a bullet wound packed in a sack was recovered by the Saddar police on Tuesday.

The people of the area informed the police about the body lying on the Attock-Sanjwal. The police shifted the body to the district headquarters hospital for postmortem and registered a murder case against unknown persons. — Correspondent

Table tennis tournament

MUZAFFARABAD, April 12: The Punjab clinched the trophy in All Pakistan under-16 Women’s Table Tennis Tournament on Tuesday, defeating Sindh in three straight games.

AJK was given a walkover as Fata refused to play the match for the third position. The winners of the tournament were awarded Rs10,000 while Rs5,000 was given to the runner ups and the third position holders got Rs3,000. Miss Wassa of the Punjab team was declared the best player of the tournament and given a cash prize of Rs10,000. —Staff Correspondent

SC decision hailed

RAWALPINDI, April 12: The faculty and the students of Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University on Tuesday hailed the interim order of the Supreme Court against the proposed devolution of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) as SC gave a ruling that the HEC would continue to function as before till the Parliament would enact a law in this regard.

The senior members of the faculty expressed satisfaction over the interim order of the apex court saying it was necessary to secure the future of higher education in the country, says a press release. —Our Reporter
