LANDI KOTAL, Feb 28: Unidentified gunmen kidnapped four persons from different areas of Khyber Agency during the last 24 hours, sources said.

They said that masked armed men abducted Mohammad Anwar from Sipah-Gharheeza while two persons, whose names could not be known immediately, were picked up from Bara Bazaar and Qambar Abad.

In Landi Kotal, armed men kidnapped a school student from Peerokhel area. Family sources said that Abdul Basit, a student of grade IX, was returning home from a nearby mosque on Sunday evening when he was forcibly bundled into a tented glasses vehicle. No body has so far claimed responsibility for these incidents.

Kidnapping for ransom and target killing in different parts of Khyber Agency have registered a sharp increase during the last couple of weeks.

In Bara, thousands of locals attended the funeral of slain chairman of local Zakat committee, Maulana Abdul wadud, who was killed on Sunday by his unidentified captors. He was abducted on February 19. His body was brought to Bara on Sunday night from Nari Baba area in Tirah. —Correspondent
