SHIKARPUR, Jan 12: A jirga organised at the Jatoi House on Monday settled a dispute related to the death of a villager in what was described as a fake police encounter.

The jirga proceedings were conducted by MPA Mir Abid Hussain Jatoi. After hearing statements of both sides in the murder case of Hazari Jatoi, five police officers including the then DSP Syed Shah Jahan Shah, Sub-inspectors Nadir Bhatti, Qamaruddin Shaikh, Fida Hussain Shaikh and ASI Ghulam Akbar Soomro were found guilty of killing Hazari Jatoi in a fake encounter.

The jirga imposed a fine of Rs850,000 on the police officials; Rs400,000 for murdering Hazari Jatoi, Rs200,000 for jirga expenses, Rs150,000 for dishonouring the body and Rs100,000 for taking away goods from the house of the deceased.

It was decided that the accused police officers would have to pay compensation to the family of the deceased within three months.

Some three years ago, Hazari Jatoi was murdered by police in a fake encounter and the murder case was challaned in a court of law.

One of the members of the victim’s family, Ali Hassan Jatoi, had appealed to the then Sindh chief minister, Arbab Ghulam Rahim, for holding of a fresh inquiry into the murder case and in this regard the then DIG Operations Larkana, Akhtar Gorchani, conducted the inquiry.

The DIG after completing the inquiry declared that the police encounter was concocted and had directed registration of an FIR at the Rustam police station against five police officers involved in the case.

The dispute was settled through the jirga with the consent of both parties.

Our Jacobabad Correspondent: The Kandhkot SHO lodged an FIR against participants of a jirga which had given its verdicts to give a minor girl in marriage to settle a dispute involving a karo-kari incident.

The jirga was held 15 days ago which decided that Liaquat Chachar will give his sister Pirzadi, 11, in marriage as compensation to resolve a dispute with Mehran Chachar.

The head of jirga, Arz Mohammad Chachar, heard both the parties and decided that Liaquat Chachar would pay Rs60,000 and give his sister Pirzadi as compensation to Mehran Chachar.

According to details, two months ago, Mehran Chachar had sent his wife to her parents’ house alleging that she had illicit relations with Liaqat Chachar. Since then, both the groups have clashed over the issue a number of times.

DPO Mohammad Yunus Chandio ordered SHO A-section to lodge an FIR against jirga holders and arrest them.

The FIR was lodged against Mehran, Arz Mohammad, Islam, all Chachar by caste, Abdul Khaliq Solangi and seven others at A-section police station Kandhkot and raided Gulsher Mohalla and Eidgah Mohalla but all the nominees fled.
