KARACHI, Jan 5: Installation of surveillance cameras and their hooking with the Civic Centre in Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town for monitoring purposes will be completed within the next two months. The project will cost about Rs140 million.

This was stated by City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal at a press briefing on Monday.

He said that work on the second phase of the “Wireless Video Surveillance System” project had begun with the installation of video cameras at Nishter Park and surrounding areas, including Numaish Chowrangi M. A. Jinnah Road.

He said that the installation of cameras at Nishter Park and its adjacent areas was undertaken by the CDGK to ensure safety of citizens. “We wanted to connect this area with the “Command and Control System” at the Civic Centre before the start of Muharram because important religious gatherings are held here in Muharram and Rabiul Awwal, besides political and other events round the year. Some unfortunate incidents took place here in the past and we wanted to make sure that no such incident happened in the area in future,” he added.
