GHALANAI, Dec 25: Security forces ‘mistakenly’ fired at an insane tribesman at Karpa checkpost in Mohmand tribal region on Wednesday night, killing him on the spot, local people said.

They said that the mentally retarded person identified as Zer Nosh was killed near the checkpost in Lakaro sub-division. Officials said that an unidentified person was approaching the checkpost despite warning by the soldiers.

“When the person did not stop, forces opened fire at him killing him on the spot,” they added. Security forces have been given shoot order after suicide attack on a checkpost in the region.

Meanwhile, 68 out of 70 wanted militants hailing from the Haleemzai tribe of Mohmand region have surrendered to the political administration as the deadline expired on Thursday.

A statement issued from the headquarters of the Frontier Corps in Peshawar on Thursday said that total 310 militants had surrendered to the political administration during the last two weeks.

A militant commander Wajeehullah belonging to Haleemzai tribe has yet to surrender to the administration so far, sources said.
